The most frequently asked questions about applying and working at AEB.
That’s a difficult question, because we have space for so many different characters, specialists, out-of-the-box thinkers, big-picture people, doers, and designers. Whether you’re a whiz at exports and customs or have a passion for writing code, streamlining processes, talking to customers, designing fantastic websites, developing talent, or building IT infrastructure: What matters is that you feel drawn to our culture and values.
Though it may sound like a platitude, what employees most often mention is the working conditions and atmosphere. That’s why we also encourage everyone to come by and see for themselves during the application process or when we host an event. Because it’s difficult to describe the feeling of being among our employees — and nothing beats a live experience. Click here to read what else our employees appreciate about AEB.
At the first interview, two or three of your future colleagues from the relevant department are usually present. If things continue to an on-site visit, you’ll meet the rest of your potential team and a representative from the Board of Directors.
Besides the traditional résumé, we’re looking for anything that gives us more insight into you. Sometimes that means letters of reference, since they show us what you’ve already achieved in the field. Sometimes that means a cover letter or video of you telling us who you are and what you’re looking for. There are no limits to your creativity.
Sure! Just get in touch with us through the Contact page, schedule a virtual coffee, or connect with one of us on Xing or LinkedIn.
Of course. A job description always has wiggle room. Once we get to know you, we can decide if you’re a good fit for this position or if another seems more appropriate — now or further down the road. And who knows, your open application might give us an idea for our next big project!
To be honest, we don’t see gaps. One is always doing something, so feel free to share that something with us. All your experiences make up who you are — your personality and strengths. We love life stories! And we’re ready to hear yours.
The purpose of our various locations is to offer a good space for people to come together. Teams and communities often work together across locations, however. So you are welcome to send an open application to a location near you or apply for any open position, even if a different location is specified. Search engines or job portals sometimes make it necessary to specify one location, even though we’re actually flexible on that point.
We are very mindful of the needs of our communities and teams. That means that if a team needs everyone to be in the same room — for workshops, brainstorming, or team-building — then that’s part of your commitment to the team. But as a general rule, you can work from home as much as you need to work effectively.
We are employee-owned. That means that all shareholders are AEB employees. All permanent employees are given the opportunity to buy shares after two years with the company.
No company exists in a vacuum. That’s why we’ve taken the initiative to address our impact on the environment and society, are making our decisions based on the triad "ecological, social, economic". We are gradually implementing programs to ensure that we play a positive role in protecting the environment and creating a just society. We source our food sustainably, we’re mindful about how we book business travel — and much more. Click here for more details.
Some areas such as support require you to be available at certain times. Teams work internally to coordinate who covers which shift. But essentially, you’ll work a schedule that works best for you. For orientation: a full-time position at AEB means 40 hours a week. But we offer nearly every conceivable part-time model and are always happy when our employees spend their non-working hours volunteering, trying new things, realizing their full potential, or raising the next generation.
Ideally, we always want you to stay with us when you complete your training or studies! And in many cases, we make that happen. But we can’t guarantee it. During the pandemic, for example, we — like many other companies — had to freeze or postpone new hires.
Depending on the field of work, that’s something we can talk about. We occasionally have voluntary interns with us, even if we don’t have any positions advertised.
Our experience shows that an internship of less than three months makes little sense, since it takes some time at first to gain basic familiarity with the company. Six months is ideal. But that doesn’t mean we won’t make an exception for a strong candidate with persuasive arguments ;)
Our software developers work in teams or communities — whatever works best for the task at hand. Choosing which one of these best matches your needs is part of the process of getting acquainted. Are you looking for a smaller, close-knit group? Then you’ll do better as part of a team. Do you prefer more faces, rotating responsibilities, and more interaction with customers? Then you might do better in a community. We’ll definitely work with you to find the best possible place for you at AEB.
Yes – and in fact, you’ll be even encouraged to! There’s lots of space here to enrich your core responsibilities with things you’re passionate about. A project to improve sustainability, assistance with recruiting, a dialog on agile organization and leadership, and technical areas that rely on cross-team, cross-community management — to name just a few of the options.
Yes. We have such a wide range of job profiles that new opportunities often arise. As we always say: We’re looking for people, not résumés. Just reach out and talk to us.
